According to the boxing magazine “The Ring”, the Hamburg-based P2M promotion has been awarded the contract for Jaron Ennis’ mandatory welterweight title defense against Karen Chukhadzhian for two million US dollars. Ennis, the current IBF welterweight world champion, already knows his opponent. Chukhadzhian, who is managed by Maxim Michailew and was formerly under contract with Fächer Sportmanagement, already fought the US boxer in 2021.

In their first meeting at the Capital One Arena in Washington, USA, Ennis (32-0, 29 knockouts) dominated the fight, defeating Chukhadzhian (24-2, 13 knockouts) 120-108 on all scorecards. At the time, Ennis was defending his IBF interim title. In November 2023, Ennis was finally declared the full IBF world champion after losing the title to Terence Crawford.

Matchroom Boxing clearly outperformed

In May of this year, Chukhadzhian’ s victory over Harry Scarff earned him the right to challenge the IBF. The IBF then scheduled the rematch and a purse bid was made. P2M secured the rights to the fight with a bid of 2,000,053.10 US dollars. Matchroom Boxing, Ennis’ promoter, offered 1,566,666 US dollars.

The date and venue have not yet been set, and it remains uncertain whether the fight will actually take place. Ennis is already scheduled as the main event fighter for a DAZN card on November 9 in Philadelphia. There is a possibility that Ennis will vacate his IBF title to move up to super welterweight. Should this happen, Chukhadzhian would have to fight the next best opponent.
