Conor Benn signs with Zuffa Boxing

British welterweight star Conor Benn leaves Matchroom Boxing and joins Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.

Conor Benn has caused a real shake-up in the boxing world. It was announced late last night that the “Destroyer” has signed a contract with Zuffa Boxing – Dana White’s new boxing project. The news comes as a surprise as Benn (25-1, 14 knockouts) was previously under contract with Matchroom Boxing.

In the run-up to his originally scheduled duel against Chris Eubank Jr. in July and September 2022, Benn came to light with two positive doping tests. The fight was canceled and a lengthy ban followed. However, Matchroom and Hearn publicly stood by their protégé and supported him during the investigations and legal battles with the British Boxing Board of Control. After intense scrutiny, Benn was eventually cleared to fight again.

“I fear no man”

In an official statement, Benn expressed his eagerness to fight: “I’m full of anticipation and hunger for what lies ahead with Zuffa Boxing. I want the legacy fights, the biggest nights and the biggest stages. I fear no man in any weight class. I’m in my prime and ready to give the fans the fights they want to see.” According to DAZN reporter Chris Mannix, it’s initially a one-fight deal that should net Benn an eight-figure purse.

Thanks to Matchroom – new era begins

On his verified social media channels, Benn specifically thanked Hearn and Matchroom: “Firstly, I’d like to thank Eddie and the whole team at Matchroom for everything they’ve done for me over the last ten years. From the start of my professional career to stadium events, they have been by my side through the highs and lows. But Zuffa Boxing offered me an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.” Benn also emphasized that he would like Hearn to remain part of his team. White was also euphoric: “Conor Benn is an absolute beast and a superstar. He always delivers and destroys his opponents. Some of the best fighters in the world are already challenging him. He’s ready for a world title fight – and I can’t wait to see him at Zuffa Boxing.”
