The WBC half-middleweight champion wants to make a statement against former world champion Keith Thurman and underline his position at the top of the 154-pound division.

WBC half-middleweight world champion Sebastian Fundora is determined to reassert his position as one of the leading fighters in the 154-pound division. The tall champion will face former unified world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman on Saturday, March 28. The fight will be televised as the main event of a PBC pay-per-view event that will air on Prime Video from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) and Thurman were originally scheduled to meet last October. However, a hand injury forced Fundora to cancel the duel. The champion has since made a full recovery and is ready to return to the ring. “Beating a former world champion would be a clear statement,” explained Fundora. “I still feel like I’m at the top of this weight class. I don’t think we’ve lost any momentum – we just had to postpone the fight. We’re not hiding from anyone. This fight will remind everyone that we belong at the top.”
Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) returns after a one-year break from the ring. His last appearance was in Sydney, Australia, where he stopped Brock Jarvis by knockout in the third round. The former champion had previously taken more than three years off. His last fight before that was against Mario Barrios in 2022. Fundora nevertheless looks at his upcoming opponent’s performance with respect. The champion particularly remembers an earlier victory by Thurm ans. “I liked Thurm ans’ performance against Danny Garcia,” said Fundora. “Garcia was also a big name and when these two met it was a great fight. The fact that Thurman won shows what a great fighter he is.”
