Mauricio Sulaimán defends the WBC’s anti-doping program and points to Devin Haney’s numerous negative VADA tests.

A discussion about Ryan Garcia has led to a public exchange of barbs between Devin Haney and the WBC. The trigger was a post by the WBO welterweight world champion on the platform X, in which Haney claimed he had never been tested during his time as WBC champion. WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán immediately refuted this claim. “Of course you were tested multiple times by VADA,” replied the WBC president, referring to the WBC’s “Clean Boxing Program,” which has been in place for over ten years.
Haney then explained that he had not been aware that his privately funded VADA tests had been automatically reported to the WBC. At the same time, he emphasized that he had paid for the tests out of his own pocket to make boxing safer. He also once again criticized Ryan Garcia, who had tested positive for performance-enhancing substances following his now-annulled victory over Haney in 2024.
Sulaimán then clarified the facts: All WBC world champions and boxers in the top 15 are part of the Clean Boxing Program and are subject to random VADA testing. Haney has been “tested more than 70 times—with negative results every time,” the WBC president explained.
