World-class boxing in Cuba: With WBA eliminator, strong AGON card – and Yakelin Estornell as a pioneer in the ring!

AGON Sports makes boxing history again! On April 11, the first professional boxing event in Cuba for over 60 years will take place at the renowned 5-star Melia Internacional Hotel in Varadero.
In the main fight of the evening, five-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion Julio Cesar La Cruz will face former world title challenger Dilan Prasovic from Montenegro. The World Boxing Association (WBA) has officially classified this high-caliber fight as a final eliminator in the Bridgerweight division. The winner can hope for a world championship fight in the near future. For La Cruz, it is only the fourth but also the most important professional fight of his career. And the Cuban is determined to win in front of his home crowd!
But the event will not only be remembered for the highly decorated Cuban professional boxers and WBA title fights! Yakelin Estornell Elizastegui will be the first woman to enter the ring as a professional boxer under the Cuban flag. A milestone for boxing in Cuba! The two-time Cuban champion, multiple international medal winner and participant in the 2024 Olympic qualifying tournament is going into her historic first professional fight with a lot of momentum and a clear goal: “I’m not just fighting for myself. I’m fighting for the next generation of Cuban boxers,” says Estornell, who will face Lina Tejada in a fight over a maximum of four rounds.
Strong undercard
The boxing event in Varadero will also be rounded off with numerous WBA title fights. These include appearances by the new AGON boxers Lazaro Alvarez, Moussa Gholam, Arlen Lopez and Erislandy Alvarez. With this event, AGON Sports sets another exclamation mark in the international boxing scene and at the same time honors the rich tradition of Cuban boxing. An evening for the history books, live from the tourist heart of Cuba, Varadero.
TyC Sports, a well-known TV channel, particularly in Central and South America, will be streaming the event live. Tickets are available at all Melia and Gran Caribe hotels in Varadero and Havana.
