Tyson Fury ends his fight against Mariusz Wach in Pattaya early and sets his sights on a potential British heavyweight showdown against Anthony Joshua.
Tyson Fury defeated ring veteran Mariusz Wach by stoppage at the Max Muaythai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand. The 46-year-old Polish heavyweight did not return to the ring from his corner for the seventh round.
Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) faced Wach (39-14, 20 KOs) in a warm-up fight ahead of what is expected to be the long-awaited British heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua this fall. For his part, “AJ” fought a warm-up bout over the weekend in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, against the largely unknown Albanian Kristian Prenga.
The “Gypsy King’s” fight in Thailand was not televised. However, footage from the arena shows Fury landing several hard uppercuts in the sixth round before Wach ended the fight and did not come out of his corner for the seventh round.
Fury vs. AJ: Venue Still Uncertain
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation about where a potential fight between Fury and Joshua will take place. According to several interviews with Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, the bout is contractually scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom. At the same time, there are efforts to hold the mega-fight either in the U.S. or in Saudi Arabia.
“I had a ten-week training camp and had been away from home for four months before that. Now it’s time to go home, rest, recharge, and hopefully sign the contract next week,” Fury said after the fight.
“Who knows where the fight will take place? Ireland, New York, Las Vegas, London—maybe even Pattaya in Thailand. Let’s see if he passes his test tomorrow. The biggest test of all is how big his balls are. He didn’t have the guts to step into the ring with me and face me. I’m not convinced yet.”
