A weekend dedicated to women’s boxing: BC Traktor Schwerin gave around 50 girls and women of almost all ages and from many clubs in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Sweden and the Netherlands the opportunity to prove themselves in the ring.

Sparring also brought ring experience

Due to a number of cancellations due to illness or injury, the program, which was held from Friday to Sunday in the boxing hall of the Schwerin Olympic Training Centre, had to be revised time and again. “Our priority was to give the young ladies the opportunity to gain experience in the ring. That’s why, where possible, a sparring match was held instead of a competition for the athletes whose planned opponents unfortunately had to cancel,” said national base manager Paul Döring, explaining the motivation for this weekend.

Next edition planned

In the end, around 50 young female boxers took to the ring, including MV’s showpieces Penelope Grochau (BC Traktor) and Xenia Scharapinski (Rostock). All in all, the event was rated as an absolute success. The BC Traktor wants to further establish the “Women’s Boxing Weekend”. The next edition is planned for the first weekend in July, then probably in the Palmberg Arena.
