Scull self-confident, Canelo confident of victory

William Scull and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez met at a press conference in New York on Thursday. The two champions will fight for the “Undisputed” super middleweight title on May 3.

IBF champion William Scull (23-0, 9 knockouts) held his first press conference yesterday ahead of his Undisputed clash with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 knockouts). The Cuban super middleweight from the Berlin AGON stable appeared respectful but self-confident at the joint appointment in the “Radio City Music Hall” in New York (USA).

“I’m feeling really good right now,” Scull explained on stage. “I’m confident in my abilities, I’m ready for May 3rd and I’m going to give the fans a great fight that they deserve.”

“Have fought in various countries”

While the fight on May 3 in Riyadh will be Canelo’s first outside of Mexico or the United States, Scull has more “foreign experience”: As an amateur, the 32-year-old boxed for his home country of Cuba, then as a professional in Argentina, Germany and the USA. “I’ve already fought in different countries and will enjoy my fight in Saudi Arabia. It will be great for all of us,” said the undefeated AGON fighter.

Canelo was relaxed in the run-up to the Undisputed showdown: “I feel great. It motivates me to fight in another country. I feel great.” This fight against Scull is very important to him and he is not taking anything lightly. “I will prepare myself and put on a good show in Saudi Arabia.” The WBC, WBO and WBA champion then joked: “And to my uncle – Turki Al-Sheikh – thank you.”

“The whole world is Canelo territory”

The fight for the undisputed world super-middleweight championship is part of a four-fight deal between Saudi boxing mogul Al-Sheikh and the Mexican superstar, which also includes a planned showdown with P4P star Terence Crawford in September. But first Canelo must face the “underdog” William Scull on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo 2025 in Riyadh. “But I’m convinced,” says Canelo, confident of victory, “that the whole world is Canelo territory.”
