Unbeaten half-middleweight Slava Spomer makes his eagerly awaited US debut this Friday at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. His opponent: the top Puerto Rican talent Xander Zayas.

Slava Spomer (20-0, 11 knockouts) caused a major surprise almost 18 months ago when he defeated the favored Frenchman Milan Prat in Oberhausen with a knockout in the tenth round. Now the 32-year-old from Heilbronn has realized his childhood dream and moved his training camp to the USA to prepare for the biggest fight of his career under the guidance of boxing legend Roy Jones Jr.
“I’ve told my friends that this is a dream come true,” Spomer told BOXSPORT. “You don’t say no to Roy! I’m only here for the training camp. I’m a father, I have a wife and two sons in Germany. My base remains there, I’m not thinking about moving to the USA at the moment. Maybe it will happen at some point, I’m open to anything. My eldest son goes to school, so I only come to America to prepare and then return to my beloved home. If I have to come here several times a year for training camps, I will. My family supports me, but we’re not worried about that at the moment.”
Spomer will be supported in the USA by his Legacy Boxing stablemate Franklyn Dwomoh, a 22-year-old lightweight talent from Hamburg. “It’s just better to do this trip with a friend than alone,” added Spomer. “It’s more fun because we know each other well and go to sparring and training sessions together. Franklyn is the next big talent from Germany. He’s young, very talented and I’m sure he’ll make it to the top.”
