Bermudez defeats tsunami in San Lorenzo

Evelin Nazarena Bermudez defends IBF and WBO world semi-flyweight titles against Tenkai Tsunami.

Evelin Nazarena Bermudez remains the queen of the semi-flyweight division! The Argentinian defended her IBF and WBO world titles with aplomb against the experienced Japanese fighter Tenkai Tsunami.

Last night, Bermudez (21-1-1, 7 knockouts) faced a tough challenge against two-time world champion Tsunami (32-14-1, 19 knockouts) at the Estadio Municipal Hector Gallucci in San Lorenzo. After ten intense rounds, the judges ruled unanimously in favor of the local heroine: 96-94, 99-91 and 99-91.

Bermudez showed a tactically clever performance and often boxed from the back, but was also convincing in direct exchanges. Tsunami marched tirelessly forward, but her offensive actions rarely found the target, while Bermudez scored with precise punch selection.

With this victory, Bermudez cemented her position as the dominant force in the semi-flyweight division. She secured her first world title in July 2021 with a ninth-round TKO against Tamara Elisabeth Demarco and was crowned IBF world champion. A year later, she unified the titles with a spectacular knockout victory in round five against Debora Renfigo at the legendary Luna Park in Buenos Aires. Although she narrowly lost her belts on points to Yokasta Valle in 2022, she regained the titles when she defeated Tania Enriquez in March 2023. With her renewed title defense against Tsunami, Bermudez underlines that she remains the undisputed number one in the semi-flyweight division and continues to dominate the top of the weight class.
