Al-Sheikh raises hopes for Fury-Joshua

The rumor mill around the possible mega-fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is bubbling again. Saudi boxing promoter Turki Al-Sheikh confirmed in an interview that he had recently spoken to Tyson Fury on the phone – and this raises new hopes for the long-awaited “Battle of Britain”.

After Fury announced his retirement, a fight against Joshua seemed to be off the table for good. Fury lost again in the rematch against Oleksandr Usyk and then announced the end of his career – not for the first time. But Al-Sheikh does not believe that this was Fury’s last act in the ring.

“I spoke to him, but not about boxing. I wanted to know how he and his family were doing. He could come back. Yes, I hope so.” Al-Sheikh explained in an interview with “The Stomping Ground”. The influential Saudi has been behind the idea of creating the ultimate British heavyweight fight for years – and his influence on the current boxing landscape is huge.

Joshua wants the Fury fight more than anything

Anthony Joshua is not giving up hope either. The former heavyweight champion made it clear in an interview with iFL TV that it would be the best fight he could imagine: “Fury is a huge fight from a commercial point of view. I think it makes sense – the heavyweight division has developed well in recent years.”

The big question remains: How serious is Fury? The “Gypsy King” has not spoken out again since his retirement, but in the past he has repeatedly declared his intention to retire. If Al-Sheikh is prepared to put a mega sum on the table, Fury could well be persuaded to change his mind.
