Mayer vs. Ryan II on March 29 in Las Vegas

On March 29, one of the most exciting fights in women’s boxing will take place in Las Vegas: Mikaela Mayer will defend her WBO welterweight world title against Sandy Ryan.

Mikaela Mayer (20-2, 5 knockouts) narrowly prevailed by majority decision in their first duel last September. But instead of taking on new challenges, she accepted the challenge of the rematch. “I’ve never shied away from challenges,” said Mayer. “I could have taken my belt and moved on, but it was a very entertaining fight and if that’s what the fans want, then that’s what I’m going to give them.” The 34-year-old couldn’t resist a challenge to Ryan: “I’m getting better every day. It will be worse for Sandy this time!”

Sandy Ryan (7-2-1, 3 KOs) is convinced that she will have the upper hand this time. “This time I will be prepared for whatever comes my way. I’m not making excuses, but after what happened before the last fight, I fought in anger and it definitely affected my performance. But it was a great fight that brought in good ratings for ESPN and that’s why Mayer had to take this rematch. It’s the biggest fight for both of us and everyone wants to see it again. On March 29, the world will see a focused, determined and talented fighter in the form of her life, and I will reclaim my world title.”

In addition to the women’s world championship fight, other top fights have been announced on the undercard: Brian Norman Jr. will defend his WBO welterweight title against Derrieck Cuevas and featherweight talent Bruce Carrington will face Jose Enrique Vivas in a WBC eliminator.
