Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn: “Let’s do Fury”

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn has announced that his protégé Anthony Joshua will return to the ring in the summer – against Tyson Fury or in a rematch against Daniel Dubois.

The next “Battle of Britain” in the heavyweight division could be just a few months away. At least if Eddie Hearn has his way. The promoter and his protégé Anthony Joshua are making plans for the next opponent to be either Tyson Fury or Daniel Dubois. “AJ wants to fight in May or June,” Hearn told BoxingScene. “For me, there are really only two fights. One is the Dubois rematch and the other is against Tyson Fury.”

“Commercially, there is no bigger fight”

Joshua lost his duel against Daniel Dubois in September and was badly knocked out by the IBF champion in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium. So AJ still has a score to settle with Dubois, who will first step into the ring against Joseph Parker on February 22. Hearn confirmed that Joshua wants to fight a rematch against Dubois.

But the even bigger boxing blockbuster on the island would be the long-awaited fight between Joshua and Fury. “Commercially, there’ s no bigger fight than AJ v Fury,” Hearn insisted. “People hate it when I say that though. Tell me a bigger fight commercially – there isn’t.”

Advice to Fury: stop – or fight AJ

After Fury’s renewed defeat on December 21 against Oleksandr Usyk, a third duel between the two top heavyweights is no longer necessary. This in turn increases the chances of a fight between the “Gypsy King” and Joshua. However, the Matchroom bossdoes not believe that Fury will be dealing with this in the coming weeks. “He’ll take January and February off. And then what’s he going to do? It’s either stop or fight AJ.”

For now, however, the focus in the international heavyweight division is on the Dubois vs. Parker fight on February 22, with no concrete news expected until after that. “Unless Frank Warren and Spencer Brown come and say: ‘Come on – let’s do Fury’,” said Hearn. After all, a duel between AJ and Fury is so big “that you always expect it to happen”.
