Natasha Jonas: “Taylor is my favorite!”

Former champion Natasha Jonas believes Katie Taylor will win the trilogy fight against Amanda Serrano – but warns against a wild exchange.

According to Natasha Jonas, Katie Taylor (39) is also the favorite in her third fight against Amanda Serrano – provided she stays true to her style. “Katie has won twice. If Serrano has won a fight, it’s the first one,” said Jonas, who herself narrowly lost to Taylor in 2021.

On Friday, the two stars of women’s boxing will meet again in Madison Square Garden. At stake is Taylor’s undisputed world lightweight title. Jonas sees Taylor clearly ahead – as long as she doesn’t get too involved in the exchange of blows: “She loves the fight, but it’s dangerous against Amanda. Her great strength is her experience, ring intelligence and ability to adapt to two minutes. Serrano has to drag her into an open fight.” Jonas particularly emphasizes Taylor’s ability to cleverly take close fights over the rounds – a product of years of experience in the two-minute rhythm. “Katie has perfected this. And that’s where her strength lies. If she doesn’t get involved in a wild brawl, she wins again.”

The Englishwoman also believes that the fight could be Taylor’s last. Although there are still interesting options with Chantelle Cameron, Mikaela Mayer or even herself, a trilogy victory in the Garden would be a worthy conclusion.
