Between the Olympics and impressive title comebacks: Maxi Klötzer, Irina Schönberger and Canan Tas are up for election in the “Amateur Women” category!

The year 2024 got off to a good start for Maxi Klötzer. At the GB Open World Cup tournament in Sheffield in January, the Chemnitz native finished in second place. The next success came two months later: while a number of DBV boxers failed to qualify for the first world qualifying tournament for the Olympics, the semi-flyweight came out on top in her limit. With a 3:2 victory against the highly rated Kazakh Alua Balkibekova, Klötzer finally secured her hard-fought Olympic ticket. In Paris, however, she was disillusioned: in round one she had to face the reigning world champion Zareen Nikhat (India) and was eliminated.

Klötzer’s teammates Irina Schönberger and Canan Tas had already failed to qualify for the Olympics. Nevertheless, it was a special year for the two DBV athletes. Schönberger, a sports soldier in the German Armed Forces and mother of a young daughter, won her fourth title as German champion in November. The 30-year-old from MBC Ludwigsburg defeated Ilvy Scheibe in the final with 4:1 points. In the finals of the 101. DM in Halle/ Saale Canan Tas also stood at the top of the podium. The 29-year-old from Cottbuser BV, who only found her way into boxing in 2019, took the featherweight crown. Tas thus repeated her DM success from 2022.
