AGON Sports is delighted to announce another top-class new signing: Sofiane Oumiha, one of the most successful amateur boxers of the last decade, is now boxing under the banner of Ingo Volckmann’s Berlin-based promotion.

France’s most successful amateur boxer

The 30-year-old Frenchman can look back on an outstanding amateur career: A two-time Olympic silver medalist, three World Championship gold medals, European Championship gold, two European Championship silver medals and many other international medals make him France’s most successful Olympic boxer.

In sporting terms, however, Oumiha (6-1-0, 3 knockouts), who turned professional in 2022, suffered a setback. In a title fight for the “WBA Gold” title in Benghazi, Libya, the new AGON lightweight lost to Francisco Fonseca from Costa Rica. Fonseca, a former world championship contender with the experience of over 40 professional fights (37-4-2, 29 knockouts), won unanimously on points (97:92, 95:94, 95:94). A knockdown in the 3rd round by Fonseca in the ten-rounder was one of the decisive factors in the scoring.

Strong platform for top boxers

Nevertheless, AGON Sports is sending out a strong signal with the signing of Oumiha. With the French top fighter, the Berlin-based promotion is continuing its successful strategy of signing top international boxers and offering them a strong platform. AGON boss Ingo Volckmann emphasizes: “We want to turn top international athletes into world champions. But we don’t neglect the German boxers either, because we have the same aspirations for them!”
