Gabriela Timar will fight her biggest fight to date on December 26 at “Boxing Day” in Bern. Her opponent in the fight for the WBO world championship is the Japanese fighter Marina Loreto.

On December 26, 2025, professional boxer Gabriela “Balboa” Timar from Basel will have her biggest fight to date. At the traditional “Boxing Day” in the Kursaal Arena in Bern (Switzerland), the 39-year-old will compete for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world title in the atomweight division.
New limit for “Balboa”
For Timar, this world championship fight is the logical next step in a career that started late but has been extremely consistent. After winning the EBU European Championships and the “WBO International” title, she is now moving down to atomweight. The title became vacant following the retirement of former German world champion Tina Rupprecht.
In the world championship duel, Timar (25-2-0) will face the unbeaten Japanese fighter Marina Loreto (8-0-2). Loreto is the reigning Japanese champion and holder of the WBO Asia Pacific title.
Timar writes boxing history
Together with her trainer and manager Angelo Gallina, Timar is already making Swiss boxing history before the first bell. Only two boxers from Switzerland have ever had the chance to fight for a world title of the big four world associations in their own country: Nicole Boss in 2015 (WBC) and Aniya Seki in 2018 (WBA), both also in Bern. They narrowly missed out on the title. With a victory on December 26, 2025, Gabriela “Balboa” Timar could become Switzerland’s first female boxing world champion.
