Post of the week: Sarah Scheurich

This week’s post of the week comes from Sarah Scheurich. The IBF light heavyweight champion married her partner Rudolph Volkmann last weekend.

Just a few days after the greatest sporting success of her career, Sarah Scheurich has also made her personal happiness perfect. The newly crowned IBF light heavyweight world champion married her partner of many years, Rudolph Volkmann.

On December 6, the 32-year-old was crowned IBF World Champion in the Lambert Arena in Göppingen. The next milestone followed shortly afterwards: the civil wedding in the immediate family circle. The wedding ceremony was originally planned for November, but Scheurich put her private life on the back burner once again for the world championship fight – a decision that paid off twice over.

“It was exactly right to focus on the fight first,” said Scheurich in the aftermath of her title win. After months of intensive preparation, mental tension and top sporting performance, she wanted to consciously enjoy the special moment – without pressure, without distraction.

The celebrations took place in her home town of Mecklenburg, where her sporting journey once began. This closes a circle for Scheurich: after years of setbacks and a completely new start in professional boxing, she is now a world champion and wife.
