Tyson vs. Mayweather: Exhibition in the Congo

The show fight is finally taking shape: Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are to box on April 25 in the Democratic Republic of Congo – in the country where the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” took place, of all places.

The planned exhibition fight between Mike Tyson (59) and Floyd Mayweather (48) has a concrete setting. According to information from The Ring, the show fight is to take place on April 25 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the meantime, the project was shaky because Mayweather was in parallel talks about a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. When these negotiations fell through, Tyson-Mayweather moved back into the spring slot.

The choice of venue is no coincidence. The country, formerly Zaire, was the venue for Muhammad Ali’s classic world championship match against George Foreman, the “Rumble in the Jungle”, in 1974. It is precisely this history that is to lend the event additional splendor. One detail has yet to be clarified: the weight limit for the exhibition has not yet been confirmed. Mayweather has won world titles in five weight classes, Tyson is the former heavyweight king.

Tyson remains a global brand despite ending his career. According to reports, his fight against Jake Paul in November 2024 reached well over 100 million viewers. Mayweather has been synonymous with show fights for years – including against Logan Paul.
