Gervonta Davis could return to the ring against Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz in the summer. It would be the first fight for “Tank” since the controversial draw against Lamont Roach – overshadowed by ongoing legal problems.

Gervonta Davis is apparently heading for a rematch against Isaac Cruz. According to information from the USA, talks are at an advanced stage regarding a rematch in the summer. This time, the fight is set to take place at light welterweight. Davis won the first duel unanimously on points in December 2021.
For Davis, it would be his return after a long break. The 31-year-old has not been in the ring since the draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025. That fight was already considered one of the closest of his career. Roach publicly demanded a direct rematch afterwards, but has yet to get it. Cruz also has a story to tell. The Mexican also only drew in December 2025 when he had to accept a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in the fight for the WBC interim semi-welterweight title.
Legal situation remains a companion
Above all, however, Davis’ situation outside the ring continues to loom large. He was arrested in Miami at the end of January and later released on bail. The charges in Florida include battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping. At the same time, US media recently also reported on problems due to an alleged parole violation in Maryland.
Whether the Cruz rematch will actually happen is not yet certain. What is clear, however, is that it would be a tough return to the sport for Davis – and a fight that would immediately attract attention.
