Negotiations are in full swing: Ryan Garcia could defend his WBC title against Conor Benn for the first time in August.

A real mega-duel in the welterweight division is taking shape: According to insiders, Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn are close to an agreement for a fight in late summer. Garcia’s first title defense of his WBC belt, which he secured in February with a clear points victory over Mario Barrios, is planned. An exact date has not yet been set, but August is considered likely. The platform is also open – streaming options such as Netflix or DAZN are being discussed.
The negotiations picked up speed after Benn had recently defeated Regis Prograis on points. Immediately afterwards, the Brit publicly challenged Garcia – with success. Garcia reacted promptly and confidently announced that he would end the fight early. In sporting terms, the duel nevertheless raises questions. Benn’s performance against Prograis was critically assessed, some experts see him more in the higher weight classes. Garcia, on the other hand, not only has punching power, but also momentum.
In addition to the sporting component, the fight promises one thing above all: enormous attention. Both boxers are among the most famous faces in the sport – a global event seems guaranteed.
