It was a year of highlights for Germany’s boxing stars. Agit Kabayel, Simon Zachenhuber and Abass Baraou not only made their mark on German boxing with their impressive performances, but also caused a sensation internationally. Kabayel (25-0, 17 knockouts) proved his class in the heavyweight division. In a thrilling fight, the unbeaten fighter from Bochum defeated Cuban Frank Sanchez by knockout in the seventh round. This victory catapulted Kabayel into the position of WBC mandatory challenger – a milestone on the way to a possible world championship fight. “I’m fighting to make history,” declared Germany’s “Boxer of the Year 2023” after his triumph.

Simon Zachenhuber (25-0, 15 knockouts), an exceptional talent in the super middleweight division, impressed with three commanding victories this year. The Bavarian, now number eight in the IBF rankings, showed technical brilliance and tireless determination in each of his fights. At just 25 years of age, he is considered a beacon of hope who is preparing to compete at the very top. Abass Baraou (16-1, 9 knockouts) is also up for selection. The EBU European semi-middleweight champion has been ranked number one in the WBA rankings this year thanks to two spectacular victories. “I’m ready for the world stage,” said the 29-year-old after his last victory over Britain’s Macaulay McGowan.

Following the new update of the WBA world rankings, German half-middleweight Abass Baraou is now ranked number one. He is now the challenger to champion Terence Crawford, who took the title from Israil Madrimov last weekend. Baraou is definitely ready for a fight against an absolute top contender.
