In an action-packed evening at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, organized by SES Sports Events, Berlin’s light heavyweight Nick Hannig suffered a bitter defeat.

In the co-main event of the SES Boxing Gala– on the undercard of the atomweight unification fight between Tina Rupprecht and Sumire Yamanaka – Nick Hannig (14-2-1, 7 knockouts) lost his WBO European title to Poland’s Mateusz Tryc (16-2, 8 knockouts) by technical knockout in the tenth round. Hannig had difficulties with his opponent’s physical advantage right from the start. Tryc, physically superior, skillfully used his reach and punching power, while Hannig tried to set the tone in the infight. The two exchanged courageous blows for long stretches of the fight, but it was Tryc who landed the clearer strikes and steadily increased the pressure.
In the tenth and final round, Hannig put down another exclamation marker and snapped his opponent’s head back with a juicy left hook – a moment that had the fans in the arena cheering loudly once again. But Tryc countered mercilessly: Two powerful left straights sent Hannig to the floor. The Berlin got back on his feet, but Tryc continued with determination. Under a hail of blows, the referee decided to stop the fight – a technical knockout with less than 30 seconds on the clock. For Hannig, this defeat not only meant the loss of the WBO European title, which he had only won last November against Tom Dzemski in Chemnitz, but also the second defeat of his professional career.
Vogel remains unbeaten
On the undercard, unbeaten Julian Vogel (16-0-1, 9 knockouts) successfully defended his WBO junior super welterweight title. Vogel prevailed on points against the tough Milos Beranek. The judges scored the fight unanimously 76-75, 76-75 and 77-74 in favor of the German talent. The event in Potsdam offered thrilling boxing with plenty of action – an evening that shows how lively the German boxing scene remains.
