Former bantamweight world champion Jason Moloney (27-4, 19 knockouts) has found a new promoter: The 34-year-old Australian signed a promotional contract with Tasman Fighters, one of the country’s most up-and-coming boxing stables.

Moloney, who won the WBO world title by majority decision against Vincent Astrolabio in May 2023 under the direction of Top Rank and Bob Arum, successfully defended his belt eight months later in Quebec City against Saul Sanchez – again by majority decision. The Queensland-based technician thus joins a high-caliber squad at promoter Mick Francis. The Tasman Fighters team includes IBF cruiserweight world champion Jai Opetaia and heavyweight hopeful Justis Huni.

Moloney shared his excitement on social media: “I’m really excited to be part of the Tasman Fighters team. Thank you for this opportunity – the road to becoming a two-time world champion starts on December 6th!” Moloney’s manager Tony Tolj said: “We want to get Jason active in the ring again. A big thank you goes to Mick at Tasman Fighters for his confidence and for giving Jason the platform to reignite his career. It’s refreshing to be able to fight on home soil again. Our goal is clear and unchanged – we want to be world champions again.” Tolj added: “Get on board now because December 6th is the first stop on the Mayhem Express, and the destination is clear – Jason Moloney is set to become a two-time World Champion. Enjoy the ride – MAYHEM IS COMING!”

His next appearance has already been scheduled: Moloney will box on Tasman Fight Night, headlined by Jai Opetaia vs. Huseyin Cinkara at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach. After two consecutive defeats to Japanese stars Yoshiki Takei and Tenshin Nasukawa in Tokyo, it is clear to Moloney that the road back to the top of the world rankings begins now.
