At the European Elite Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, DBV stars Maxi Klötzer and Kevin Lebowski failed to reach the finals but won bronze medals at the European Championships.
Maxi Klötzer will not be able to compete for gold at the European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. The German Boxing Federation (DBV) representative got off to a good start yesterday in the semifinals against Laura Fuertes Fernandez (Spain). However, Klötzer ultimately lost by a narrow margin of 2–3 points after three rounds in the 51-kg weight class.
Earlier, the 26-year-old from Chemnitz had defeated Laura Horvarth of Hungary in the quarterfinals. Kevin Lebowski, Germany’s second remaining hope for a medal, was also successful in that round. In the 90-kg weight class, the 22-year-old defeated Isaac Okoh of England.
Goal Achieved
In yesterday’s semifinal, however, Lebowski lost decisively by a score of 0–5 on points. In addition, the German champion from Boxteam Duisburg was counted out in the second round against Emrah Yasar (Turkey). Nevertheless, Lebowski, just like Klötzer, is assured of a European Championship bronze medal.
The DBV traveled to Sofia for the championship matches with 13 boxers. Leading up to the event, national team coach Humberto Horta Dominguez had set his sights on two medals at the European Championships with his squad.
