One of the most famous German boxers of the 1990s is celebrating his 62nd birthday today: Ralf Rocchigiani. The former cruiserweight world champion left his mark on German boxing with his own style and tireless mentality.

Born on February 13, 1963 in Rheinhausen, Ralf Rocchigiani began his career as an amateur before turning professional in 1983. He quickly made a name for himself and became German cruiserweight champion. In 1995, he crowned his career with the WBO cruiserweight world title – with a spectacular performance against Carl Thompson in Manchester. This made him only the second German after Max Schmeling to win a world title abroad. He defended his belt six times before ending his career in 1999.
Despite his success, he was often overshadowed by his younger brother Graciano, although experts considered Ralf to be more talented. After his active career, he remained loyal to boxing, working as a trainer and TV pundit. Today, Ralf Rocchigiani lives and works in Berlin, where he also works as a boxing trainer. Congratulations, Ralf!
