In a short video message on Instagram, Tyson Fury has announced the decision to end his career in boxing: “I’ve enjoyed my boxing career and I’m grateful for the experiences.” He added a cryptic remark by mentioning historic mugger Dick Turpin, prompting speculation about his feelings on the recent fight verdicts.

Fury’s career is characterized by impressive successes and remarkable comebacks. His victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 ended Klitschko’s long dominance in the heavyweight division. After a break, Fury returned and delivered a memorable trilogy with Deontay Wilder between 2018 and 2021. His two defeats against Usyk are the only ones in his professional career.

Despite this announcement, it remains unclear whether Fury is turning his back on boxing for good. He has already announced his retirement several times in the past, only to return to the ring later. Fans and experts are therefore speculating whether a potential mega-fight against Anthony Joshua, which has long been on the cards, could become a reality after all.
