Agit Kabayel could take his next big step as early as this year. Talks are underway regarding a unification bout with WBA champion Murat Gassiev.
Agit Kabayel could have the chance to add a second world championship belt to his collection as early as 2026. According to information from The Ring , talks are currently underway for a unification bout between the German WBC world champion and WBA champion Murat Gassiev. Kabayel’s promoter, Spencer Brown, confirmed that discussions are taking place. The fight is tentatively scheduled for late this year. If the bout takes place, two of the four major heavyweight world titles would be on the line.
Kabayel has fought his way to the top of the weight class with strong performances. Victories over Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez, and Zhilei Zhang initially earned the Bochum native the WBC interim title. Following Oleksandr Usyk’s retirement, he was named the regular world champion. Gassiev also benefited from Usyk’s relinquishment of the title. The former unified cruiserweight champion had initially secured the WBA Regular title with a knockout victory over Kubrat Pulev and was subsequently promoted to full WBA champion. He most recently won his first title defense with a first-round victory over Peter Kadiru.
For Kabayel, the bout would be an opportunity to definitively cement his position at the top. Gassiev, for his part, could become the unified world heavyweight champion following his successes in the cruiserweight division.
