Three DBV boxers were eliminated on the third day of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. Maxi Klötzer and Leonie Müller will enter the ring today.

The fifth day of the 2025 World Championships saw three round of 16 fights with German participation: For Tatjana Obermeier in the bantamweight up to 54 kg, it was the tournament debut, for Yasse Cisse (heavyweight up to 90 kg) and Nikita Putilov (super heavyweight over 90 kg) it was their second competition in the current “World Boxing Championships”.
Obermeier, Cisse & Putilov lose
Unfortunately, however, no victory was possible on this day: Tatjana Obermeier, Yasse Cisse and Nikita Putilov unfortunately had to concede defeat to their opponents in the round of 16, in some cases by narrow but unanimous margins, and bow out of the tournament.
This means that two German boxers are still in the competition and will make their next appearances today (September 9): Maxi Klötzer (flyweight up to 51 kg) will now face Taiwan’s Yi-Xuan Guo in the last 16 after her opening win. For Leonie Müller (half-middleweight up to 70 kg), the quarter-final match against Aziza Zokirova from Uzbekistan is already all about precious metal: a win and a place in the semi-finals would already secure her the bronze medal.
“Two buffaloes in the ring”
“You could tell that Tatjana Obermeier still lacked a point or two of experience against the Brazilian,” commented center coach René Benirschke. “Even though the fight ended 5:0 for the Brazilian, the fight was much closer in my eyes.” The DBV coach also commented on Nikita Putilov’s performance: “Two buffaloes in the ring who fought a tough battle right up to their performance limits. Overall, however, Nikita is the offensive fighter, with no reward from the judges. The elimination in the round of 16 does not do him justice.”
Center coach David Hoppstock had the following to say about Yasse Cisse’s withdrawal: “Overall, he stuck to the tactical line with ice-cold precision. At the back, Yasse still lacked the experience to launch a second attack. But it wasn’t a bad performance overall.”
