The doping suspicion against Jaime Munguia has been confirmed: The B sample is also positive. The Mexican is facing these consequences.

Now it’s official: Jaime Munguia has been convicted of doping. After the Mexican super middleweight’s A sample tested positive for synthetic testosterone, the B sample now confirms the suspicion. The 28-year-old former world champion is therefore facing a severe ban – and the disallowance of his points victory over Bruno Surace in May 2025.
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) is currently reviewing sanctions. An official decision is still pending, but a “no contest” for the fight against Surace seems likely. Munguia had secured a narrow victory in the rematch as part of the Canelo-Scull fight in Las Vegas – a revenge for his knockout defeat in December 2024. But the triumph could now become a low point.
Surace demands consequences, Munguia claims innocence
Surace, who provided one of the biggest surprises of 2024 in the first duel, was disappointed but determined: “There should be no place for this kind of behavior in boxing. I expect a clear decision,” he told The Ring. The 26-year-old Italian is now aiming for a world title fight against the winner of Edgar Berlanga vs Hamzah Sheeraz.
Munguia himself continues to deny all blame. In a written statement, the Mexican explained: “I have dedicated my whole life to clean sport. I love boxing. We will show that I have not cheated anyone.” His team also stands by the thesis of unintentional contamination and announced a thorough investigation. The final decision now lies with the BBBofC. Should the victory be overturned and a ban imposed, it would be the third setback for Jaime Munguia in a short space of time – after the defeats against Surace and Canelo Alvarez.
