Prof. Dr. Jens Hadler is no longer President of the German Boxing Association (DBV). The official was sentenced to prison in the wake of the “diesel scandal”. The DBV has already found a successor.

Prof. Dr. Jens Hadler has resigned from his position as President of the German Boxing Association (DBV) with immediate effect. Hadler informed the board of his decision at a meeting of the DBV executive board convened at short notice. A successor has already been found in the person of Prof. Dr. Mir Farid Vatanparast.
“Always communicated openly”
“This decision was not unexpected, as he has always communicated openly and transparently about the developments in the ongoing process in Braunschweig to the regional associations, the board and sport-relevant institutions since the beginning of his work for the DBV,” the association announced.
Hadler, former head of engine development at Volkswagen, was sentenced yesterday to several years in prison in the so-called “diesel scandal”. In addition, the 6th Criminal Chamber of the Regional Court of Braunschweig sentenced three other ex-VW managers to prison terms or suspended sentences.
Vatanparast succeeds DBV boss
Hadler had decided to take this step in order to avoid damaging the DBV’s reputation at both national and international level, according to reports. Hadler had also already informed the presidents of the regional associations and the entire board. The DBV honored Hadler as “an important personality whose impulses have provided numerous trend-setting impulses for the further development of the association”.
The appointment of a new President of the DBV has already been made and Prof. Dr. Mir Farid Vatanparast has been unanimously chosen as his successor. The 45-year-old, who is also involved as a trainer at the Münster Boxing Center, will manage the association’s affairs as co-opted president until the election congress. “I am very pleased with the unanimity with which the Executive Board has shown leadership here and I am convinced that a more than suitable successor has been found in Mir Farid Vatanparast,” said Hadler.
