Rematch fixed! Davis meets Roach again in August

The first fight was controversial, now it’s time for a rematch: Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach will meet again on August 16.

After the controversial draw in the first duel, the rematch between Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0-1, 28 knockouts) and Lamont Roach Jr. (24-1-1, 9 knockouts) will take place on August 16 in Las Vegas. As Ring Magazine reports, the fight will once again be for the WBA lightweight title.

The first clash in March ended surprisingly without a winner and provided plenty to talk about. Roach delivered a strong performance, while Davis – otherwise known for his knockouts – was unable to continue his usual dominance. One scene in round nine in particular caused a stir: Davis knelt after being hit, but the referee stopped the count at “three” and did not count the action as a knockdown. Had Roach been awarded the points advantage, he would probably have emerged victorious.

Davis then blamed the kneeling on a burning hair care product in his eyes. An explanation that caused further frowns, especially as his corner intervened during the round in violation of the rules. The rematch in August offers both boxers the chance to clear up any unresolved issues – both in sporting terms and in terms of fairness. The fans can look forward to a highly charged fight.
