After two years, Vincent Feigenbutz is back. The 29-year-old spoke to BOXSPORT about the reasons for his time out and his comeback following his fight at “Boxen im Norden” on May 1 in Hamburg .

Vincent, congratulations on your successful comeback. In a close fight at the legendary “Große Freiheit 36” music club in St. Pauli, you defeated Lukas Ferneza from Slovakia unanimously on points (78:74, 78:74, 77:75). You’re back in the pro circuit. But you haven’t been in the ring for two years, a long time for an ambitious professional boxer. What was the reason for your time out?
I had started training with the police. Learning and training just didn’t fit together anymore. My training center is also not in my city of Karlsruhe, but outside, about an hour’s drive away. Now I’m doing an internship at the end of my training and would actually have more time for training, but after a hard day’s work you need to relax.
Yes, that’s understandable. But once again, you were on your way to the top – and then the decision to hang up your boxing gloves …
You have to remember that there are many risks involved in becoming a boxer. If you remain unsuccessful, you may find yourself in your mid or late 40s without a completed vocational training, without any economic security. With almost nothing. I have a family and wanted to create a secure basis for myself, hence the training.
Didn’t you have the necessary support from a promoter or management to be able to continue your sport?
Hm, ultimately I was steered wrong by my former management. To be honest …
