The mega-duel for all four world titles between William Scull and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is only a few hours away. Unbeaten super middleweight and reigning IBF world champion William Scull (23-0, 9 knockouts) faces the biggest challenge of his career on the night of Saturday, May 4 (German time): In the ANB Arena he meets the biggest name in boxing, reigning WBA, WBC and WBO world champion and Ring Magazine champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 knockouts).

For “El Indomable” Scull, who comes from Cuba and fights for Berlin promoter Ingo Volckmann, this is the chance of a lifetime. The final press conference before the big fight took place in Riyadh on Thursday evening. Scull appeared confident and determined in front of numerous media representatives. When asked if he was surprised when he got the call that he could fight Canelo, IBF World Champion William Scull said: “Yes, we were surprised, to be honest. You’re in training all the time and you just wait for opportunities like this. I have to thank Team Canelo right now for taking this fight. I’m looking forward to going out there and putting up a great fight!”

“Round after round!”

The host of the final press conference, Chris Mannix, went on to ask: “Many have tried to beat Canelo – only two have succeeded. What are you going to do to be victorious on Saturday night?” The AGON boxer replied: “We have to take the fight round by round. You know, I’ve had great preparation and I’m a boxer who can go over different rounds and box in different rings. We have a plan and we’ll see if it works. But I’m not going to give it away now because that would give my opponent an advantage.”

When asked what he says to those who think he is only happy to be here in Riyadh, but not here to win, Scull replies: “I left Cuba when I was 23, and since then I have fought in many different countries. I’ve often had to deal with different cultures when I’ve boxed. Not only my opponents, but also other people have often underestimated me. But I don’t care what people say, I’m not interested. All I can say is that I will go into the fight to show that I can do it!” Scull’s trainer Franquis Aldama was also brief and to the point: “I’m 100 percent confident. William has to do what he’s always done. Go out and fight!”

AGON boss Volckmann: “It’s an honor.”

For promoter Ingo Volckmann, tomorrow evening is another milestone in the still young history of AGON Sports: “First of all, I would like to say that I am proud to be here with my boxer William Scull – it is an honor. We are well prepared and it is a great opportunity to compete against the best boxer. But: William Scull is also world champion and we will try to take the belts from him (Canelo). William fought more than 300 fights as an amateur. He has prepared very well for the duel. We were in the mountains, we did very good sparring with different partners and over many rounds – anything is possible!”

The Undisputed title fight between William Scull and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be the main event of a huge boxing event as part of the Riyadh Season. The event will be broadcast live on DAZN.
