Slawa Spomer: Big opportunity in the Big Apple

On February 14, Slava Spomer will meet Xander Zayas at Madison Square Garden. A fight that could take his career to the next level.

Slava Spomer is facing the most important fight of his career. On February 14, the undefeated German (20-0, 11 knockouts) will compete in the co-main event of Top Rank at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. His opponent: the equally undefeated Puerto Rican Xander Zayas (20-0), the current number 1 in the WBO half-middleweight rankings. For Spomer, the fight is a unique opportunity to prove himself on the international stage.

The conditions for this fight were unclear for a long time. Despite his impressive victory over Milan Prat in October 2023, Spomer remained inactive for a year, which slowed down his career progress. However, his move to Legacy Sports Management last year opened new doors for him. After a build-up fight in November, the big step onto the international stage now follows.

Xander Zayas, who has been under contract with Top Rank since the age of 16, is regarded as one of the biggest talents in boxing. For Spomer, the WBO’s number 11, the fight is not just a sporting challenge. The “away game” in the USA presents additional hurdles, but Spomer is determined: “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this opportunity.” The fight will be broadcast on ESPN. Whether it will also be shown in Germany remains to be seen.
