The first day of competition at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool (September 4-14) brought three German boxers into the ring. In contrast, Denis Bril in the welterweight up to 60 kg and Ben Ehis in the light heavyweight up to 80 kg were unfortunately eliminated from the tournament with defeats.

Yasse Cisse’s victory allowed him to advance to the round of 16, where he will face Loren Berto Alfonso Domingues on the afternoon of September 8. The Azerbaijani was lucky enough to skip the opening round in this weight class. Domingues, a native of Cuba, won bronze in Tokyo in 2021 and silver in Paris in 2024.

The results of 04.09.2025:

* Up to 90 kg (m): Yasse Cisse (GER) vs. Jonas Jazevicius (LTU)

Center coach David Hoppstock on the first day of the tournament:

“Denis showed a very strong fight – technically almost flawless and very lively in his performance. However, he’s currently in a weight class that doesn’t quite suit him. That means he lacks a bit of the necessary punch.”

“Ben boxed a very strong first round. What he achieved there in terms of fitness was impressive. Unfortunately, the first round was obviously judged differently from the outside, which is a shame. The second round also started strongly again, but then he was hit by an unfortunate punch. With a bit more luck and consistency, he could have beaten the Ukrainian.”

“A tight affair, but with room for improvement”

“Yasse allowed himself to be pushed too much onto the defensive at the start of the fight and didn’t always look convincing in the reverse gear. Towards the end of the first round, however, he managed to catch himself and become active himself. It then became very close in the second round – his opponent was a real fighter with the heart of a lion and was able to improve his stamina in particular.”

“Conclusion: A tight affair overall, but with room for improvement in the battlefield.”

The fixtures with German participation today (05.09.2025):

The second day of the tournament will see two matches with German participation: approx. 15:15 (German time), Ring A: up to 85 kg (m): Ammar Abduljabbar (GER) vs. Danylo Zhasan (UKR); approx. 10.45 pm (German time), Ring A: over 90 kg (m): Jose Augustin Augustin Triset (DOM) vs. Nikita Putilov (GER)

The fights will be streamed live by the world federation on YouTube.
