As a commentator on the ropes, you could almost feel the raw intensity of this duel: Dutch light heavyweight Gradus Kraus stormed through Rostam Ibrahim last night and secured the IBF European title with a devastating knockout in round two at Sportcomplex De Wilgenring in Rotterdam.

The duel got off to a furious start in front of a sold-out crowd. Ibrahim (13-2-2, 8 knockouts) started boldly and landed a juicy left midway through the first round – a real “chin check” for Kraus (9-0, 8 knockouts). But the local hero responded immediately with hard strikes on the man, forcing his opponent into wild exchanges and making an early statement.

The fight escalated shortly before the start of the second round: Ibrahim marched forward, threw a hard right hand, but at the same time ran into a precise left counter hand from Kraus and went down. While the Dutchman was already climbing to the corner of the ring, Ibrahim reluctantly fought his way back up, but the decision seemed inevitable.

Kraus smelled blood and immediately followed up. Ibrahim looked for the body shots, but was countered hard with two left hooks. Even a spirited right head kick from the German failed to impress Kraus. The Dutchman kept his cool, waiting for the perfect window of opportunity – and found it. A series of powerful left hooks made Ibrahim’s chin tremble; the challenger crashed flat on his back. Before the referee could even start the count, the towel sailed into the ring from the German corner. Official time: 43 seconds in round two.

A brutal, dominant performance from Kraus – and a statement to the entire light heavyweight scene.
