On Wednesday evening, ECB heavyweight Victor Faust defends his WBO European Championship belt against Mariusz Wach in Budapest – live on M4 Sport.

Before the heavyweight duel at the “László Papp Centenary Event” in Budapest, the two opponents presented themselves at the official weigh-in. ECB heavyweight Victor Faust weighed in at 106.2 kilograms, while his opponent Mariusz Wach weighed in considerably heavier at 124.3 kilograms. “The Viking” Wach has been in training for a good four months, as the fight was originally due to take place in February but then had to be postponed. He was last in camp to spar with upcoming Tyson Fury opponent Arslanbek Makhmudov – and should therefore be well prepared when he enters the ring.
Despite the difference in weight, Faust was confident and focused: “I’m well prepared and feel in top form. Tomorrow I’ll go out and win. I’m delighted to finally have a really good opponent in the ring with me. Now I can show what I can do.”
Potential for the absolute top
Faust’s promoter Erol Ceylan also emphasized the importance of the fight and the long-term development of his protégé: “Victor is one of our most important projects and we are convinced that he has the potential for the absolute top. Our opponents are not selected at short notice, but are chosen specifically to test his development realistically. He has mastered all his challenges so far and we are confident that he will fight for a world title by the end of this year or early next year at the latest.”
Faust also receives encouragement from his discoverer Peter Hanraths, who continues to follow the Ukrainian’s development closely: “After his injury break, Victor has worked his way into the top 15 of the WBO. With a win, he can take the next step and develop towards the top 10. I remain convinced that he has what it takes to become world champion.”
So everything is set for a trend-setting heavyweight duel with clear ambitions on both sides. The event will be shown live from 7 p.m. on www.m4sport.hu and the fist fight is expected at around 10:30 p.m.
