There were further successes for the DBV boxers on Thursday. Both Maxi Klötzer and Ali El Sari won their fights at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil.

On Thursday, two athletes from the German Boxing Association (DBV) advanced to the next round at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil (April 20-26). Maxi Klötzer (-51 kg) also won her second fight at the tournament in Foz do Iguaçu. The fighter from Chemnitz defeated Feruza Kazakova from Uzbekistan on points and is now through to the quarter-finals. Klötzer will face Romane Moulai from France today.
Also victorious for the DBV team was Ali El Sari (-55 kg), who prevailed on points against Zhirayr Sargsyan (Armenia). El Sari will now face Spain’s Rafael Lozano Serrano in the last eight.
Müller and Walter also in the quarter-finals
Leonie Müller (-70 kg), who already reached the quarter-finals on Wednesday, will face Poland’s Barbara Marcinkowska today. If Müller wins this fight, she is guaranteed a medal at the World Boxing Cup. DBV boxer Valerij Walter is in action for the first time today. In the weight class up to 85 kg he will face Amen Allah Sakouhi from Tunisia in the quarter-finals.
The 2026 World Boxing Cup in Brazil has attracted a record number of participants. A total of almost 400 boxers from 50 nations have registered for the tournament in Foz do Iguaçu, which will take place from April 20 to 26, 2026. It is the first World Boxing Cup this year and also the biggest tournament in the series to date.
Medals and world ranking points
The medals will be awarded in a total of 20 weight categories, ten each for men and women. In addition to the placings, important points for the world rankings are also at stake. The preliminary fights will be held in two rings at the same time, while the semi-finals and finals will take place in one ring.
The DBV had sent two female boxers and six male boxers to Brazil. Women: Maxi Klötzer (-51 kg) and Leonie Müller (-70 kg). Men: Ali El Sari (-55 kg), Mohamed Siala (-60 kg), Ousainou Hansen (-65 kg), Magomed Schachidov (-70 kg), Valerij Walter (-85 kg) and Nikta Putilov (+90 kg).
