On Friday, three boxers from the German Boxing Association (DBV) were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Cup in Brazil. Only light heavyweight Valerij Walter was able to win against Amen Allah Sakouhi (Tunisia) with 4:1 points. This meant that the 21-year-old from Pforzheim had already secured bronze. The following day, Walter faced Sultanbek Aibaruly in the semi-finals, but was defeated by the Kazakh with 0:5 points.

Out for Müller, Klötzer and El Sari

DBV athlete Leonie Müller (-70 kg), who lost on points to Barbara Marcinkowska from Poland in the quarter-finals, had to bow out. The same applies to Maxi Klötzer (-51 kg), who was defeated by Roamne Moulai from France. Previously, Ali El Sari (-55 kg) had been eliminated from the DBV men’s tournament, losing his quarter-final fight to Spain’s Rafael Lozano Serrano on points.

The 2026 World Boxing Cup in Brazil attracted a record number of participants. A total of almost 400 boxers from 50 nations registered for the tournament in Foz do Iguaçu, which took place from April 20 to 26, 2026. It was the first World Boxing Cup this year and also the biggest tournament in the series to date.

Medals and world ranking points

The medals were awarded in a total of 20 weight categories, ten each for men and women. In addition to the placings, important points for the world rankings were also at stake. The DBV sent two female boxers and six male boxers to Brazil. Women: Maxi Klötzer (-51 kg) and Leonie Müller (-70 kg). Men: Ali El Sari (-55 kg), Mohamed Siala (-60 kg), Ousainou Hansen (-65 kg), Magomed Schachidov (-70 kg), Valerij Walter (-85 kg) and Nikta Putilov (+90 kg). Valerij Walter was the only member of the eight-man squad to win precious metal, which is hardly enough for the DBV.
