Skye Nicolson has taken the next step back onto the big stage in Australia. In the Melbourne Pavilion, the 30-year-old clearly defeated her compatriot Mariah Turner on points over ten rounds to defend her WBC interim super bantamweight title. All three scores were a clear 100:89.

Nicolson dominated the duel from the outset with her familiar mix of footwork, timing and precise counterattacks. Turner showed heart and resistance, but found few solutions against the agile southpaw. Turner’s nose was clearly bleeding early on in the fight, while Nicolson controlled the action and was virtually unscathed. In the final round, things got a little messy again and Turner was deducted a point for using his head. This did not change the outcome: Nicolson won confidently and celebrated her fourth victory in a row since the surprising defeat to Tiara Brown.

After the fight, she immediately set her sights on the top. Her goal is clear: a duel with Ellie Scotney, the undisputed champion of the weight class. Promoter Eddie Hearn also described Nicolson against Scotney as one of the best possible fights in women’s boxing.
