Gervonta Davis is making an impressive comeback after months of silence. The former three-division world champion is currently making headlines not only with his potential comeback plans but also with a public war of words with WBO welterweight world champion Devin Haney.

It all started with a social media post by Haney after Davis had apparently signaled interest in a head-to-head matchup via his new account. “I think Gervonta has finally worked up the courage. His team reached out! Maybe we’ll actually fight each other,” Haney wrote. Davis countered shortly afterward with a photo of wads of cash and a luxury watch, declaring, “I’m going to show the world that you’re still a kid. No more talk. See you there.”

According to several reports, both sides are generally interested in a fight. However, this could put Haney in conflict with his obligations to the WBO. The organization is likely to call on him shortly to face his mandatory challenger, Keyshawn Davis.

Changes are also on the horizon for Gervonta Davis. The 31-year-old seems to want to leave the lightweight division behind for good and is apparently considering a permanent move to welterweight. At the same time, there is speculation about a change in trainers. According to media reports, Jose Benavidez Sr., father and trainer of world champion David Benavidez, could be in his corner in the future. “It would be ideal to get Gervonta out of Baltimore and prepare him in Phoenix or Seattle, far away from distractions,” a source close to the team is quoted as saying.

Davis hasn’t boxed since his controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025. In addition to athletic concerns, he continues to face legal issues that further complicate his return. Nevertheless, there are many signs that one of boxing’s biggest stars is preparing for his next major chapter.
