The sporting future of Gervonta Davis remains uncertain. While the WBA recently officially committed the former world champion to a fight against top challenger Floyd Schofield Jr., new legal problems are once again causing massive headlines surrounding the US American. Several US media outlets have reported that a signed arrest warrant has been issued for Davis in the state of Maryland. The background to this is apparently a possible violation of probation conditions from an earlier case relating to a hit-and-run accident in 2020 in which several people were injured. If Davis is found by authorities in Maryland, he faces immediate arrest.

In addition, the unbeaten three-weight class world champion is still under pressure because of an incident in Florida. Both a criminal investigation and a civil lawsuit are ongoing there. A published video allegedly shows Davis forcibly pushing a former partner out of a building in the direction of a parking garage. Among other things, the boxer is accused of false imprisonment and assault. Particularly explosive: the plaintiff’s lawyer has now announced that he intends to put Davis under greater financial pressure. According to statements made to the US media, claims for damages could now be prepared based on Davis’ assets.

In sporting terms, Davis has not fought since his controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025. Although the WBA has already scheduled Schofield Jr. as his next opponent, a return to the ring in the near future seems anything but certain.
