It’s Fight Week! Next Friday, May 1st, the eagerly awaited “Mallorca Fight Night” by AGON Sports will take place in the historic Pueblo Español in Palma de Mallorca. A fight night that is already regarded as the strongest fight card the island has ever seen. International title fights, Olympic champions, strong young boxers and local fighters ensure a special mix of sporting class and emotional home advantage.

Two top-class WBA title fights are the focus of the evening. The Spanish top contender Samuel Carmona (13-1) will fight for the WBA Intercontinental title in the flyweight division against the experienced Venezuelan Rodrigo Ramirez (21-2-2). For Carmona it is a real home game on Spanish soil. He wants to take the next big step towards the world championship with a win.

Cuban Hulk in the ring

In the heavyweight division, AGON’s “Cuban Hulk” Carlos Castillo Rodriguez (10-0) will also step into the ring against Argentinian Jonathan Exequiel Vergara (9-3). The fight is for the WBA Fedelatin title and for Castillo to further extend his unblemished record and establish himself in the international rankings.

Another high-caliber fighter is double Olympic champion Arlen Lopez (6-0), who will face Leonel Eduardo Avila (12-4) from Argentina in the super middleweight division. The exceptional Cuban boxer is one of the biggest names in amateur boxing worldwide and gives the event additional international appeal.

The undercard also features other prominent AGON boxers: Saidel Horta will box against Fernando Toro, Alejandro Claro will face Edinson Martinez, Malek Semmo will step into the ring against Kassimou Mouhamadou and Assan Hansen will box against Faysal Benatallah.

Home advantage for Sangou and Vicente

Two fighters with a direct connection to Mallorca are also in the spotlight this week: Elvis Sangou (3-0) and Yenifel Vicente (40-5-2). Elvis Sangou, who lives and trains on Mallorca, will face the experienced Spaniard Victor Julio (18-16) in the super-lightweight division. It is the perfect opportunity for the unbeaten boxer to present himself in front of his home crowd. Yenifel Vicente brings even more experience with him. The boxer from Puerto Rico also lives on Mallorca and will step into the ring against Angel Guedez (6-13) in the featherweight division.

On Thursday, April 30, media representatives and fans will have the last opportunity to see all the boxers up close at the public weigh-in. The weigh-in starts at 12:30 pm in the Estadio Balear and is the perfect way to get in the mood for the big fight night.

Promoter Ingo Volckmann is looking forward to the premiere: “Mallorca has long been more than just a venue for AGON. We have our gym here, I’m often on the island and now we’re finally bringing a big AGON event to Palma. This fight card is something very special.”
