Anthony Joshua has finalized his next step. The former heavyweight world champion will return to the ring on July 25 in Riyadh to face Albanian Kristian Prenga. It will be Joshua’s first fight since the serious car accident in Nigeria in which two close friends lost their lives.

In sporting terms, the appearance serves as preparation for the long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury. Promoter Eddie Hearn explained that the fight between Joshua and Fury is “signed, sealed, delivered”. Saudi Boxing boss Turki Alalshikh had also previously indicated that the British mega-fight is now firmly planned.

Joshua himself said that he had deliberately taken time to rebuild himself physically and mentally. He should regain his rhythm against Prenga before the duel with Fury in November. Fury had recently celebrated his own comeback with a points win over Arslanbek Makhmudov.

One of the biggest fights in British boxing history is finally taking shape. However, Joshua still faces a mandatory task: he must deliver against Prenga so that the path to Fury remains clear.
