Exceptional boxers in Berlin: Double Olympic champion Arlen López and three-time world champion Lázaro Álvarez fight at the AGON event on September 12.

Top-class replacement for the injured former world champion Vincenzo Gualtieri! AGON Sports is bringing two of the most successful amateur boxers of the last decade to Berlin. The exceptional Cuban athletes Arlen López and Lázaro Álvarez (both under contract with AGON Sports) will step into the ring on September 12 as part of the big AGON boxing evening in the Uber Eats Music Hall. Both will be competing in international title fights organized by the World Boxing Association (WBA).
With the “Cuba Card”, AGON promoter Ingo Volckmann is setting a sporting exclamation mark and giving the Berlin audience real boxing in a class of its own. Lázaro Álvarez, three-time amateur world champion and three-time Olympic bronze medalist, not only brings with him an extraordinary fighting resume, but also one of the most elegant boxing styles in international comparison. “I’m really looking forward to boxing in Berlin! Germany has a great boxing history and I want to show the fans Cuban boxing at the highest level. I’m ready to deliver something special!” said Álvarez.
Arlen López, two-time Olympic champion (gold in 2016 and 2020), Olympic bronze medallist in 2024 and former amateur world champion, also promises great emotions: “Berlin is a special place for me because it’s the capital of Germany and I know there are a lot of boxing fans there. I want to show my best performance and prove to everyone that Cuban boxing is alive and kicking.” Both Cubans are unbeaten as professionals and will each fight for WBA titles in Berlin, which should pave their way to the top of the world rankings.
Volckmann: “Sensational solution”
AGON promoter Ingo Volckmann is delighted with the short-term solution: “Of course it is bitter that Vincenzo is out, but with Arlen and Lázaro we have found a sensational solution. Both are among the most successful amateurs in the world, they are technically brilliant and offer top-class boxing. This is a unique opportunity for the Berlin audience to experience Cuban boxing in its purest form.”
In addition to the two Cubans, Berlin fan favorites Hamsat Shadalov (in the main fight for the WBA title) and Paul Wall (in the duel for the German championship) will continue to be the focus of the event. All in all, spectators can look forward to many fights, several international title duels and a top-class boxing spectacle. Tickets for the fight night are available at Ticketmaster.de.
