“Bam” Rodriguez makes short work of it

The decision in the semi-main event for the WBC super flyweight world championship between Jesse Rodriguez and Pedro Guevara in the Wells Fargo Center was much quicker than in the main fight – Ennis vs. Chukhadzhian.

The 24-year-old defending champion Jesse Rodriguez (21-0, 14 knockouts) gave his eleven years older challenger Pedro Guevara (42-5-1, 22 knockouts) no chance. Rodriguez appeared confident and made his superiority clear right from the start. Guevara got into trouble early on. Rodriguez repeatedly landed his dangerous left hook. It was a foretaste of what was to come. Guevara tried to keep the champion at bay with body shots, but this tactic was only moderately successful. The favorite was too dominant.

The third round should finally bring the decision. Rodriguez pushed his opponent into the ropes and brought him down with a left straight. Guevara got to his feet again, but immediately had to deal with another left uppercut – this time hitting the mark. He went down again. Referee Ricky Gonzalez instinctively knew that Pedro Guevara would not get up again and stopped the fight. The right decision and a triumph across the board for “Bam”. Now he dreams of unifying all the important belts in the limit.
