Thecapital of Mallorca will be the venue for a special evening for international professional boxing on May 1st: AGON Sports is organizing its own boxing gala on the Balearic island for the first time, sending out a strong signal in a place that has long been more than just a destination for the promotion. With the historic ambience of the “Pueblo Español” in the heart of Palma, an extraordinary backdrop was deliberately chosen that combines Mediterranean flair with sporting excitement.

Event with special significance

For AGON, this event is far more than just another event in the calendar. Mallorca has been an important location for the promotion for years, as AGON operates its own gym here. Promoter Ingo Volckmann has also found his second home on the island. This makes it all the more important to host a fight night in Palma for the first time. The event will also have a special setting. It is taking place as part of this year’s convention of the German Professional Boxing Association (BDB) and is therefore also becoming the focus of the German boxing scene.

WBA title fights for “Hulk” and Carmona

The sporting focus will be on two top-class WBA title fights that will characterize the evening. In the flyweight division, AGON’s new signing, the Spanish top contender Samuel Carmona (13-1-0), will face the experienced Venezuelan Rodrigo Ramirez (21-2-2). The fight is for the “WBA Intercontinental” title over ten rounds and will be a duel between two technically skilled boxers, with Carmona looking to take the next step towards the top of the world in front of his home crowd.

In the heavyweight division, the “Cuban Hulk” Carlos Castillo Rodriguez (10-0-0, 6 knockouts) also faces his next test. He will fight for the “WBA Fedelatin” title against Argentinian Jonathan Exequiel Vergara (9-3-0, 5 knockouts) over ten rounds. Castillo, who is increasingly establishing himself in the rankings, wants to build on his unblemished record and finally position himself as a serious factor in the international heavyweight division.

“Perfect backdrop in the ‘Pueblo Español'”

Ingo Volckmann is particularly looking forward to the event. “I’ve wanted to organize an event on Mallorca for a long time, and now we have the perfect setting for it. ‘The Spanish village’ Pueblo Español offers the perfect backdrop for our first event here on Mallorca. The spectators can look forward to more than just the two title fights. I promise that there will be some exciting personalities and surprises on the undercard!”

With the premiere in Palma, AGON Sports is sending out a clear signal: Boxing belongs on international stages – where atmosphere, audience and sporting quality merge into an overall experience. Further fights on the undercard will be officially announced in the coming days. Tickets will go on sale shortly.
