Kevin Boakye-Schuhmann is taking the next step in his career towards the international stage. The 27-year-old from Hamburg has signed with Zuffa Boxing – and is the first German professional to join the new boxing project. Boakye-Schumann is currently in St. Petersburg (Florida) and speaks of an opportunity that quickly materialized. According to the boxer, the contact was made by his manager Ryan Rickey. Rickey is closely networked in the USA and beyond, which is how the connection to Zuffa came about. An agreement was reached within a short space of time.

Boakye-Schumann cites two reasons for the decision: Firstly, the sporting concept appeals to him. Zuffa has generated a lot of attention in a short space of time and has already positioned itself prominently with well-known names. Above all, he expects pairings that are not about “easy” build-up tasks, but about duels at eye level. On the other hand, the economic aspect also plays a role. He emphasizes that money is not the main driver, but it does make a difference whether performance in professional sport is appropriately rewarded – after all, his everyday life consists of training and competition.

His sporting goal remains unchanged: To become world champion. Boakye-Schumann also likes the approach of bundling title structures more clearly instead of having several champions running in parallel in each weight class. It remains to be seen when he will be in the Zuffa ring for the first time. However, a date should be set shortly.
