Germany’s amateur boxers are competing at the traditional Strandja tournament in Sofia. 13 athletes are taking part – and Humberto Horta Dominguez, the new DBV head coach, is in charge for the first time.

The Strandja tournament in Bulgaria is a must-attend event in European amateur boxing. This year marks the 77th edition of the event and once again attracts strong nations to Sofia. Among them: the German Boxing Association (DBV), which is bringing a line-up of four female and nine male boxers to the start.
In sporting terms, the tournament will also be exciting from a German perspective, because a new face is pulling the strings at the corner: Humberto Horta is leading the team through an international tournament week for the first time as DBV head coach. The coach only took up his post at the beginning of the month and is now directly gaining competition experience under tournament pressure. Boxing will take place from Monday, February 23, until the finals on Sunday, March 1. As in the previous year, the event will be broadcast on the Bulgarian federation’s YouTube channel.
